Project Description
Your Friendly Neighborhood Library is conceived as a second home for residents in Bushwick. The ground floor is an ultra-permeable “Living Room for the Neighborhood,” where passersby can take refuge from urbanity. Above is the library, where discrete cylindrical forms make a composition that is simultaneously a caricature and abstraction of residential design. The overall image of the project conjures an image of colorful water towers, silos, or even a drum set. The interior spaces of the library defy the exterior characterization of discrete cylindrical volumes, and take on amoeba-like forms generated by the tangents of the cylinders.
