Project Description
The stool is as much of a staple in the Kenyan culture I grew up in as the food we ate, food often made when sitting on low stools. This design process investigated how to meld cultural expression, indigenous design, and modern techniques in industrial design which in this case was CNC milling. The questions explored are rooted in the practice of craftsmanship, appreciating the role of the human scale in the making of objects that are intended for the engagement of the body in a spatial, socio-cultural, and temporal space.
