Project Description
Most Rwandans never have an opportunity to attend university, and failing secondary schools are a key reason. Duhange Hub redesigns secondary education with the goal of moving Rwanda towards a knowledge based economy. Its pedagogy trains students for in-demand professions while encouraging overlapping and productive mixes within these practical areas of study. The core structure of the school is modeled on a village street, centering the learning activities around an active community hub where students and locals meet. The street wall houses both community storefronts and classrooms and is punctuated by 6 focus labs. Two thesis bars stitch across the street and link back into the agricultural landscape. Over time, the simple and replicable buildings can grow according to community needs and aspirations.
