MyApps

What is it, and when should I use it?

MyApps is a tool we are offering in conjunction with Yale ITS. MyApps is very similar to our internal virtual workstation system but instead of the hardware living on premises, MyApps lives in Microsoft’s Azure cloud.

In the long term, we hope to eventually retire our local virtual desktop system in favor of this new MyApps system. We are only able to offer MyApps with a limited set of software at the moment, so this tool will be available in addition to our local virtual workstation system.

Some of the differences of this system are:

  • True virtual GPU support for better 3D and render performance
  • Accessible via most browsers (PC and Mac)
  • VPN is not required
  • Load an app directly instead of using an entire machine
  • Times out after 2 hours of inactivity
Please feel free to use this system at your convenience. You can use the system as an additional machine, a sandbox, or to troubleshoot issues around VPN, network performance, or other software issues.

How can I access MyApps?

You can access the system here using your Yale email and password: https://myapps.yale.edu

This is what you should see upon sign-in:

You can load one of the available apps directly or choose ‘YSOA-Desktop’ for a full Windows machine. When connecting, you will be prompted for your Yale NETID and password.

You should be able to see and save to our shared drives regardless of what you connect to.
