Students in “The Chair” seminar visited the Leslie P. and George H. Hume American Furniture Study Center at Yale West Campus. Originally founded in downtown New Haven in 1959, the Hume Furniture Study contains over 1,300 examples of furniture, clocks, and wooden objects made in America or for the American market from the 17th century to today.
Over the course of the semester, students in “The Chair” develop their design and fabrication skills through exploration of the conceptual, aesthetic, and structural issues involved in the design and construction of a full-scale prototype chair.
