Nathan Burnell

Assistant Shop Manager; Instructor
Nathan Burnell is an instructor in the Yale School of Architecture’s fabrication shop. Nathan specializes in digital fabrication and process development. He has developed his skillset from an early age as a 90’s kid, shaped by analog technology and dreams of what the digital future would hold. In 2007 he graduated from Wentworth Institue of Technology with a BS in Industrial Design. Since then, Nathan has focused his efforts on refining and enhancing products, processes, and end user experiences by applying empathic design principles and utilizing digital fabrication processes for rapid prototyping. As an Instructor and Assistant Shop Manager at the YSOA fabrication lab, Nathan encourages students to explore the tangible realm by leveraging the advantages of both analog and digital fabrication technologies in a safe and efficient manner . He teaches courses that enable his students to realize their design decisions, helping them to better understand the real-world outcomes of their choices and clearly illustrate their design intent. Additionally, Nathan serves on Yale University’s Shop Safety Committee.
