Julia Treese is partner at Sebastian Treese Architekten based in Berlin and Munich with projects in Germany, Switzerland and France and with work as far afield as India and Canada. She received her Bachelor of Science at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and went on to study at the École Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris before receiving a Master of Science ETH in Architecture at ETH Zurich.

After studying and working under the renowned German architect Hans Kollhoff, Julia joined Sebastian Treese Architekten as partner in 2012. Sharing a passion for architecture as well as an unconditional dedication to the work of design and construction, Sebastian Treese Architekten has realized over 20 projects within the first 10 years of their practice.

The work of Sebastian Treese Architekten demonstrates the harmonious coexistence between imaginative design and the context of a rich cultural heritage. By reinterpreting the lessons of the past, the firm is crafting a new traditional architecture and urbanism that reflects the culture, climate, and physical character of existing places, while upholding the values of open and just societies.

As a leader in classical and traditional architecture in Germany, Sebastian Treese Architekten were awarded the 2021 Richard H. Driehaus Prize.

Julia served as a Visiting Professor of the Practice at the Notre Dame School of Architecture in 2022 and 2023. During her time there, she co-founded a German lecture series featuring esteemed guests such as Prof. Hans Kollhoff and Prof. Christoph Mäckler, amongst others. While at Notre Dame, she also co-edited the Architecture school’s journal ANTA and has lectured intensively about traditional and contemporary design approaches and construction methods in contemporary urban residential architecture.

In August 2023, Julia was appointed to the Richard H. Driehaus Prize Jury, which recognizes excellence in traditional architecture within a contemporary context. In 2024, she also served on the jury for the European Prize of Architecture Philippe Rotthier, which honors regional, culturally significant works that engage with both urban and vernacular European architectural heritage.
