A material exercise in homage to Josef Albers, created with sensitivity to the potentials and limitations of specific materials and the process of using them.
.
This exercise from “bauhaus@100” class with @daviestoews and Eeva-Liisa Pelkonen became a token of my learning @yalearchitecture : to create with understanding of materials, with economy and empathy.

Final model and process iterations for a community center dedicated to the restorative justice process.
.
The cracks cutting through the roof volume capture the vision of restorative justice process: there is a crack in everything; that is how the light gets in.

Using big date and artificial intelligent technology, this urban research project records the land use condition New York City’s 268 jointly operated playgrounds (JOPs), the total area of which equals to 45% that of Central Park.
.
The data is visualized using a quadrant diagram mediating between color gradient and line density. By presenting data at such magnitude, the installation encourages public interaction and conversation.
.
For design, the proposal envisions various ways to link groups of JOPs together, to create urban networks that promotes connectivity, reciprocity, and resilience.

From sun print to study models to a floating fish farm in Ghana: a proposal for Francis Kéré @ kerearchitecture and Martin Finio @martinfinio advanced studio “New Tool.”
.
The ocean fish farm, designed for the local fishermen of Ghana, is an endeavor to empower a community marginalized by rapid urbanization. It also represents a bottom-up effort towards sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
.
The design combines a flexible modular system with the use of bamboo as the basic construction material, requiring little skill and only simple tools to execute. The roof is made from overlapping independent pieces, an ingenious solution to create a safe long-span space on the sea and to collect rainwater. The fish farm aims to “teach to fish” rather than “give a fish.”

A historic preservation proposal for the Ladeira da Misericórdia, Salvador, Brazil, started off from the local ceramic making practice: for Robert A.M. Stern classical studio led by Norma Barbacci and Sunil Bald @sunilbald.
.
The architectural intervention finds inspiration from shelters for archaeological sites commonly seen in Latin America. Light touch, small footprint, thin and skeletal, the new structure contrasts with the old and only provides what is needed – a canopy and a piece of shadow.
To another start: courage, freedom, fearlessness, WORK.
