Making and Memory: A Conversation on the Legacy of Indian Boarding Schools
Summer Sutton Adlparvar (PhD ‘25), Assistant Professor of Planning and Design, Toronto Metropolitan University, will present the first chapter of her research on the influence of Indian boarding schools on Indigenous architects and traditional practices of production within the architecture profession. Christian Hart Nakarado, (BA’07, M.Arch ‘12), Assistant Professor, Wesleyan University, will discuss his research on federal Indian boarding schools and the Indigenous spatial design methodologies integrated into the community-driven transformation of The Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School in Michigan.
