Balmori Associates: A Landscape Never Happens Twice

Landscape designed by Balmori Associates

Balmori Associates is an international urban design and landscape architecture firm. Founded in 1990, the office is led by partners Noemie Lafaurie-Debany and Javier Gonzalez-Campana, and supported by a multi-disciplinary, multi-lingual team. We are recognized across the globe for our interfacing of landscape and architecture.

The main tenet of our work is to set up a different type of relationship between ourselves and each of the elements of nature: soil, water, air, plants, and animals. We want to change our ways of dealing with them, treat them as parts of ourselves. To do this, two sustainable design principles guide us: to have low-impact, and to be regenerative of the sites we work on.

Our portfolio includes executed projects at all scales and award-winning competitions. It has garnered numerous awards for design excellence and sustainability. Recent and ongoing projects include the public space and urban landscape guidelines for Madrid Nuevo Norte in Spain; a master plan of the Dong Mai central park for a new urban development in the south-east of Hanoi; the landscape design of the new federal courthouse building in the city of Harrisburg, USA; the Bilbao Ria master plan and the Campa de Los Ingleses park design next to the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain and the design of the new zero waste South Korean government city in Sejong, among others.
