Gallery Talks

Mia Kang, Toto Kisaku, Sydney Lemmon, and Limbergino

garden—pleasure: closing

garden—pleasure exhibition

2:30 p.m. Mia Kang will present a 30-minute performance dedicated to Korean American artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha. Taking cues from the architectural, affective, and conceptual elements of garden––pleasure, Kang will perform a score of movement and text intended as a ceremony of recovery following her qualifying examinations en route to the PhD. The work will also explore Doris Humphrey’s three divisions of movement characteristics: sharp accent, sustained flow, and rest. This is an ephemeral, non-staged work, and audience members are invited to enter, exit, and move through the space freely throughout.

3:00 p.m. Sydney Lemmon (Drama ‘17) and Toto Kisaku will perform an original piece titled “7 Dialogues,” by Toto Kisaku. This performance runs about 30 minutes.

Per playwright Toto Kisaku:

“The 7 dialogues introduce a personal and open exchange in an unusual direction, today. These dialogues are presented in a format to which the giant structures admire, contemplate, and challenge the human by reminding them that space is the main symbol of common identity.”

4:00 p.m. Limbergino will perform “Little Pleasure Gardens.”

Limbergino is a trio consisting of Yale School of Music Alumni keyboardist Daniel Schlosberg, guitarist Jesse Limbacher, and violinist Aiv Rubino. They met while they were graduate students in the Yale School of Music composition program and formed the trio in 2014. Living within a partially improvised dream structure, the music they create together is best experienced live.

Per the artists:

“little pleasure gardens is an open invitation for garden-goers to become musical inhabitants of the garden. Visitors are encouraged to stream music from the garden-pleasure website openly on the speakers of their cell phone. Collectively, these songs from each visitor’s hand provide the music for their respite within the garden walls.”

“little pleasure gardens” is multiple-weeks-long in duration and will begin streaming from the digital signage page www.gardenpleasure.org. The trio will perform the final movement of the piece layered on top of the texture of cell phone audio being played by audience in the space
