reVEIL Exhibition Reception

Reveil exhibition poster detail line drawing

Please join us for an reVEIL’s opening reception in the North Gallery on Thursday, December 5th at 6:30pm! Refreshments will be served.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than half of the service industry’s workforce is foreign-born. Under the veil of cook, cashier, sales rep, dishwasher, cleaning lady, delivery guy, janitor, valet […], the service industry initiates this workforce into the hidden realm of work— the backdrop for survival*. Surroundings are subverted by the need and desire to conduct daily rituals, creating an internal network of covert spaces. reVEIL celebrates this collective identity and the act of sustaining it within a foreign territory.

*survival: (/səˈvʌɪvəl/) n. the continuance of a custom after the conditions in which it originated or which gave it significance have passed away.
