Myths of Permanent Cities
Todd Reisz, architect and writer on the cities of the Arabian Peninsula, is editor of multiple books on the subject including Al Manakh and Al Manakh 2: Gulf Continued, two essential guides to urban development in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE. His forthcoming book, Along Sound Lines: Making Dubai 1955-1979, will be published by Stanford University Press in 2020. He has taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and the Yale School of Architecture, returning to the latter this semester as the Louis I. Kahn Visiting Assistant Professor. Reisz’s work has been featured in several Venice Architecture Biennials, the Sharjah Biennial, and various other exhibitions. “Myths of Permanent Cities” will delve into the ways engineered bravura manifests itself as new cities in the Arabian Peninsula.
