The ideal Project Designer candidate will have the following qualifications:

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in single-family residential design.

Proficient in Interior Architecture and Millwork detailing.

Proficient in CAD and Adobe InDesign. Familiarity with Rhino, 3D Printing, and Revit are a plus but not required.

Knowledgeable in Exterior detailing, Code Compliance and with attentiveness to QA/QC standards of practice.

Support Senior Staff in the guidance of Junior Staff. Minimum of 5-10 years of work experience at an architecture firm.

Minimum bachelor’s degree in architecture with a Master’s degree in architecture being a major plus.

Eligibility to work in the United States.

Ability to speak, read and write English fluently.

ABOUT THE STUDIO

Sydney Jackson is a boutique interior design studio based in Ridgefield, Connecticut, specializing in residential interiors that blend traditional character with a fresh, layered, and collected aesthetic. Our projects range from full-scale renovations to individual room designs, with an emphasis on thoughtful details, architectural finishes, and custom millwork.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and organized interior design student or recent graduate to assist with technical drawings, drafting, and CAD work on an hourly, project-by-project basis. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience working directly with an independent interior designer on real residential projects. The role is flexible, with hours varying depending on project needs and deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Create and revise floor plans, elevations, and other technical drawings using CAD software. ● Develop millwork and cabinetry elevations and detail drawings. ● Translate hand sketches, site measurements, and design concepts into accurate digital drawings. ● Update existing drawings based on design revisions and client feedback. ● Organize and maintain drawing fi les for ongoing projects. ● Support occasional additional design documentation as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

● Currently studying or recently graduated from an interior design, architecture, or related program. ● Proficiency in AutoCAD or another professional drafting program. ● Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and measurements. ● Ability to produce accurate, scaled floor plans, interior elevations, and detailed millwork/cabinetry drawings. ● Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization. ● Familiarity with residential construction, cabinetry, and millwork is a plus. ● Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and meet agreed-upon deadlines. ● Experience with 3D modeling or rendering software is a plus.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

This is a paid, hourly position with work assigned on a project-by-project basis. Hours will fluctuate depending on the studio’s workload, making it a good fi t for a student or recent graduate seeking flexible experience alongside other commitments.

Work can largely be completed remotely, with occasional in-person meetings or site visits in New York and Connecticut as needed.

The Urban Resources Initiative (URI) – both a program of the Yale School of the Environment (YSE) and a New Haven-based environmental non-profit – is hiring Yale student interns to participate in its GreenSkills program this fall and spring!

TheGreenSkills program is a city-supported green-job-training program for local high school students and adults who have barriersto employment. Our crews plant trees along city streets, in parks, and at schools, at the request of New Haven residents,businesses, and community institutions.

GreenSkills Planting Team Roles – In-Person

As a GreenSkills planting team member, you will join either our weekday planting team and/or supervise our Saturday youth crews. Regardless of which team you join, you can expect to: learn about urban ecology, tree planting, and stewardship; work outside in variable weather conditions; participate in weekly team meetings; form meaningful relationships with team members who may have very different life experiences from you; connect with New Haven residents about what matters to them in their neighborhoods; and drive large landscape trucks with trees and navigate throughout the City of New Haven to multiple planting sites. Never planted or pruned a tree before? That’s okay! Paid training is provided.

 The fall semester internship starts the week of September 2 through the week of November 24.

 Winter work is available, including tree pruning.

 Spring semester dates are TBD.

Planting Crew Trainer (Adult Program)–

Join members of our non-profit partner organizations New Haven Works, IRIS (Integrated Immigrant & Refugee Services), and The Goodwill Reentry Initiative in the operations of urban tree planting. A valid driver’s license is required. The job includes driving a tree truck, loading trees, digging, mulching, lifting, carrying, and being outdoors; communicating with tree adopters; entering tree points into our database; labeling trees; watering trees; presenting information to a small group; and interacting with other members of the public about trees and our work.

Shifts: Mornings (6:30 am-12:30 pm) and Afternoons (12:00 pm-5:00 pm). Students working on the weekday team are assigned to one or two shifts weekly (for example, Monday mornings). Weekly meetings are required. Fall semester dates are between 9/8/26-11/25/26.

Planting Crew Supervisor (High School Program) - Yale interns will work in pairs to supervise and mentor a team of six high school students in tree planting. The job includes digging, mulching, lifting, carrying, being outdoors, leading small groups, submitting written reports, communicating with tree adopters, and coaching students. A valid driver’s license is preferred.

Shifts: Every Saturday 9/12/26-11/21/26 from 8:00 – 4:30. Shift begins Weekly meetings and pre-season trainings are required.

GreenSkills Office Roles – In-Person

Joining our GreenSkills Office Team is a great opportunity to support the “behind-the-scenes” operations of running an urban forestry program. Program Communications Intern The Program Communications Intern(s) will work closely with both the GreenSkills Program Managers and the Development and Outreach Manager to support essential administrative tasks for URI’s GreenSkills program. They must be comfortable using Excel/Google Sheets, making phone calls, and sending emails and texts. Native Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply. Folks with other language skills, including Arabic and Pashto, are encouraged to apply as well.

The primary tasks expected in this role include:

• Communicating with tree requestors by phone and email

• Helping to maintain our tree request database system

• Preparing and disseminating outreach materials

• Updating URI’s social media outlets

• Entering tree requests into the Call Before You Dig system so that our planters are digging safely

Development Intern

The Development Intern will work closely with both the Development and Outreach Manager and the Executive Director to help write and manage URI’s grants, prospect new funding opportunities, and report back on our programs to funders.

Work on an active mixed-use development project comprising approximately 8,000 SF of ground-floor commercial space and 30 apartments across four residential floors. The project is in the early design and entitlement stage, with a licensed architect providing professional oversight.

The intern will have meaningful hands-on involvement in the design and development process, including:

• Building modelling and floor plan development
• Apartment layouts, unit mix, and commercial spaces
• Core, circulation, stairs, elevators, roof decks, and balconies
• Elevations and exterior design concepts
• Area calculations and renderings
• Coordination with civil and structural engineers

Qualifications: Strong Revit skills are required. Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, Twinmotion, or similar visualization tools is helpful. Candidates should be creative, technically strong, proactive, and interested in the intersection of architecture, construction, zoning, and real estate development.

The intern will work directly with the owner/developer, architect, and professional consultant team. The position offers significant exposure to the development process and the opportunity to contribute to an active project.

Schedule: 10–20 hours/week, with flexibility around academic commitments and potential for additional involvement as the project progresses.

Hart Howerton Travel Fellowship Program

Background: In 2006, Hart Howerton established the Travel Fellowship as an educational initiative for students at design schools. Each summer, selected Fellows join our New York or San Francisco office for a professional internship and receive funding to pursue independent travel and research on a topic of their choosing.

Through the Fellowship, students gain professional office experience, exposure to collaborative interdisciplinary design, and the opportunity for global travel and research. The perspective gained through the program helps Fellows explore the possibilities available after graduation and approach their careers with greater confidence.

Structure: The Fellowship begins with an eight-week professional internship working as part of an existing Hart Howerton project team, followed by a three-week period of travel and independent research on a Fellow’s self-defined, approved topic. Research findings are prepared as a report, presented to the firm and published by Hart Howerton.

The Fellowship includes: • $11,000 compensation for the 11-week Fellowship internship and travel period. • $6,000 for research expenses during the three-week research period. • $3,000 in housing assistance during the eight-week stay in San Francisco or New York. • Round-trip travel to San Francisco or New York from the student’s school.

Hart Howerton will select a shortlist of up to 10 students for virtual interviews before making the final selections. Awarded Fellows will be announced in early March 2027. Past Hart Howerton Fellows have traveled throughout Europe, Eastern and Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States to study topics ranging from urban food networks and green roof applications to coastal programming strategies. Michael Murphy, founder of AMMA and co-founder of MASS Design Group, for example, advanced his thinking about the role of design in Sub-Saharan healthcare programs as a Hart Howerton Fellow.
